Amazing Home-Centric Charities You Should Check Out

November 15 is known as National Philanthropy Day which is a thirty-plus-year-old annual celebration of the people and organizations that devote their lives’ work on a daily basis to helping others in need. Now, while a holiday isn’t necessary to be philanthropic, the day still serves as a great reminder to give back. So, for those of you looking for some organizations that are doing incredible work and well worth your awareness. The common thread that they share is that they are helping people in need establish a safer and healthier home life. So, here are some home-centric charities you should know about.

Easterseals

Easterseals is an organization that provides opportunities and access for both children and adults with physical disabilities and their caretakers. One of the many things the non-profit organization does is provide access to accessible, safe homes. In fact, Easterseals is the sole philanthropic partner of Century 21 real estate.

New Story

New Story is an international non-profit organization that builds homes in underserved international communities. One hundred percent of all their donations go towards constructing these homes which are locally sourced and built by local workers. They are also the official philanthropic partner of Sotheby’s International Realty.

Habitat for Humanity

Now, a list that looks at the best home-centric nonprofits would not be complete without mentioning Habitat for Humanity. Since its inception, this organization has done so much more than simply build homes. They also plan projects for neighborhood revitalization, provide disaster response and also brings financial education to underserved communities. A majority of the charity’s local affiliates receive a four-star rating on CharityNavigator.org, and it has been a favorite amongst many in the construction business like HGTV star Chip Wade.

1% For The Planet

The organization, 1% for the Planet was started by Yvonne Choiunard who is also the founder of Patagonia. This organization funds other organizations that directly address the issue of climate change supports the planet and champions environmentalism. They aim to keep everyone’s “home” which is the earth, a place that can sustain life. Apartment Therapy has donated one percent of its annual revenues (not profits) to the organization.
